SUMMARY:Jennifer Bristol: Meet the Author & Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Women’s History Month with an inspiring afternoon of exploration\, conversation\, and discovery.\nMeet Texas author Jennifer L. Bristol as she shares her book\, Wild Women for Good: Stories of Conservation in Texas. \n \nFor more than a century\, women have shaped the conservation movement in Texas. From protecting birds and wildlife to preserving prairies\, forests and waterways\, their leadership has helped define the natural heritage of our state. Wild Women for Good brings these powerful stories to life\, highlighting more than sixty women and groups whose work strengthened communities and protected the landscapes we treasure today. \nSpanning 150 years of history\, the book explores the earliest conservation efforts in Texas\, including the movement to stop the millinery industry’s slaughter of birds for plumage. Bristol also examines the women who championed the creation of the state park system\, defended water systems from pollution\, and dedicated private lands for public good in a state where 94 percent of land is privately owned. The book concludes by looking ahead to the next\, more diverse generation shaping conservation in Texas. \nDuring this special event\, guests can purchase a copy of Wild Women for Good at the Bolner Family Museum Store and meet the author for a book signing. \nIncluded with general museum admission. Become a Witte Member to enjoy free admission year-round plus exclusive discounts and perks. \nAbout the Author \nJennifer L. Bristol is the author of Parking Lot Birding: A Fun Guide to Discovering Birds in Texas and Cemetery Birding: An Unexpected Guide to Discovering Birds in Texas. Inspired by her shared love of birds with famed naturalist Victor Emanuel\, Bristol helped create and directs the Victor Emanuel Nature Scholarship Fund\, which provides underserved youth with opportunities to attend birding and nature immersion camps.
