The group is known for many jazz styles\, specializing in the American songbook of composers such as Duke Ellington\, The Gershwins\, Louis Armstrong\, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. \nJazz is in Aaron Prado’s DNA\, and it’s not hard to tell as he works his piano alongside bassist George Prado and drummer Brandon Guerra. Witnessing Prado is an international exploration in the jazz movement- from swing classics to boleros\, be-bop to European avant-garde- always defined by deft musician and imagination. \nPresented in partnership with Trinity University’s KRTU Jazz 91.7.

DESCRIPTION:~ SOLD OUT! Thank you to all ticket purchasers. ~ \nAdventure awaits you at the Witte Museum’s annual Rock Art Rendezvous! The Rock Art Rendezvous is a weekend of exploration and guided tours of some of the most remarkable rock art sites in the world. The weekend also features demonstrations\, camping\, music and much more under the big skies of West Texas. \nTickets to the Rock Art Rendezvous are $150 per person and include: \n\nCamping spot at the White Shaman Preserve – tent or trailer (26’ max)\nInteractive demonstrations by the Witte Museum’s Education Team\nCowboy coffee and continental breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings\nBBQ dinner\, raffle and campfire Saturday night with musical performance by Randy Granger\nTour options include: The White Shaman\, Tinaja Canyon\, Seminole Canyon (Fate Bell and Fate Bell Annex)\, Bonfire Shelter & Eagle Cave\, Presa Canyon\, Upper Canyon (includes Running Horse and Seminole Spring Shelters) and a Nature Walk on the White Shaman Preserve\nStargazing (weather permitting)\n\n\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\nArrival/Departure and Facilities: \nGates will open on noon Friday\, February 17th. All visitors are to depart no later than 5:00 p.m. on Sunday\, February 19th. Any vehicle can navigate the White Shaman Preserve road and all roads to the tour locations. Tour signup begins each day at 7:30 a.m. Tour space is limited and is on a first come\, first served basis. Spots on tours are not guaranteed unless you sign up. The White Shaman Preserve does not have electricity\, Wi-Fi\, restrooms or potable water. Cell service can be intermittent. Portable toilets and a water trailer for handwashing will be available. All Rock Art Rendezvous participants have access to the restroom and shower facilities at Seminole Canyon State Park. Entrance and tour fees for Seminole Canyon State Park will be paid by the Witte Museum. \nImportant Notice: \nAll Witte Museum Rock Art Rendezvous participants must complete and sign the Liability Release Form before participating. Please read carefully. You will be asked to sign this form when you arrive to check in. By signing this form and participating\, you also confirm that you have read and will abide by the Tour Guidelines and Expectations. \nReservations and Cancellations: \nAll reservations for the Rock Art Rendezvous must be paid in advance. Cancellations must be made a minimum of 14 days prior to the Rendezvous to receive a full refund. Cancellations made after the 14 day minimum are non-refundable. Guided tours may be cancelled due to weather conditions\, extreme heat/cold\, road conditions\, river levels\, etc. For the safety of the group and at the discretion of the guide\, tours may be cancelled at any stage during the event for any reason. The Rendezvous goes on rain or shine\, hot or cold. \nHealth and Safety: \nParticipants must be aware of the remote and difficult environmental conditions and terrain into which our tours travel. This involves hiking considerable distances\, scrambling over rocks and boulders\, steep ascents and steep descents\, walking in or over loose rock\, rappelling up/down a rope and through dense thorny brush. At any time of the year desert heat can be extreme. In most cases medical help and trauma care are several hours away. The Rock Rendezvous is for participants 12 years of age and older. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. \nAdditional Details: \nThe Witte Museum is proud to be the conservation stewards of the White Shaman Preserve\, a national historic landmark and archaeological site. Generators\, pets and ground fires are prohibited. We ask all participants to observe quiet time from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Please make every effort to consolidate vehicles on off-site tours. A small grill for cooking will be available for your use in the camp area. You may bring gas stoves – no charcoal grills please. Fill your gas tanks prior to arriving at the Rendezvous if you plan to take offsite tours. \nThe White Shaman Preserve is reserved for Rock Art Rendezvous participants\, however participants are not required to camp on the property. Other locations to stay include: \n\nSeminole Canyon State Park campsites: 1-432-292-4464\nComstock Motel (call early for reservations): 1-432-292-4484\nComstock RV Park & Camping Cabins: 1-432-292-4451\n\nThere are numerous hotels in Del Rio; however\, Del Rio is approximately 45 minutes from the White Shaman Preserve\, so please plan accordingly.

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to celebrate DreamWeek with a special performance at the Witte Museum! \n“Ode to Juneteenth\,” a play written by Eugene Lee \nFollow Emancipation Jones through time to discover how the celebration of Juneteenth has shaped history and the state of Texas. \nJeremy Bilbo will portray Emancipation Jones in this Free Tuesday performance of “Ode to Juneteenth” written by award-winning playwright Eugene Lee. Jeremy is a local singer and actor who has joy and enthusiasm for the stage and has been part of the Witte Team since January of 2019. As a Witte InterActor\, Jeremy has been seen as Captain Calcium\, Dr. Dug\, the Peristaltic Plumber\, Choosy Chef and Cowboy Jeremy. Outside of the Witte\, Jeremy has had the opportunity to work with local theaters including the Magik Theatre\, Woodlawn Theatre and The Renaissance Guild. He is honored to portray Emancipation Jones in “Ode to Juneteenth.” \nThis performance is included with Free Tuesday general admission. DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT — Tamale season is around the corner!  \nJoin your Witte family for the 15th annual La Tamalada as we learn a little tamale history\, which dates back thousands of years. Spend your morning getting your hands in masa and making tamales\, followed by a box lunch. \nWhile tamales cook\, enjoy demonstrations on how to make salsa and chili with the Witte’s Chef Overton Lesley of the Tremblay Family Café. Communal learning of how to make tamales has been key to keeping this skill alive\, so join us as we continue to pass along this tradition. Each participant will make and take home a dozen tamales and the skills to host their own Tamalada.

DESCRIPTION:Rewilding is a radical form of environmental conservation that seeks to restore entire ecosystems and revitalize our relationship with the natural world. \nJoin author and wildlife conservationist Millie Kerr on November 8 as she shares insights from her new book\, Wilder: How Rewilding is Transforming Conservation and Changing the World\, which spotlights a range of contemporary rewilding projects from around the world. In conversation with Shaun Donovan of the San Antonio River Authority\, Millie will discuss the restoration of the Mission Reach and explore the importance of conservation and outdoor recreation in San Antonio–and beyond. \nAdmission is complimentary\, however a reservation is required. Reserve your spot online. \nDoors open at 6:45 p.m. Refreshments will be served. \nCopies of Wilder will be available to purchase and Ms. Kerr will be available to sign them after the program. \n*Please note\, November 8 is election day. Millie Kerr and the Witte Museum encourage all to exercise your right and vote early.  \n  \nMillie Kerr is a lawyer-turned-writer focused on wildlife conservation. After time in legal practice\, Millie decided to instead pursue her passions of storytelling\, travel and wildlife conservation\, and for the last ten years\, she has worked as a freelance journalist and conservation communicator. \nMillie’s creative essays and reported articles have appeared in dozens of American and British publications\, including The Economist\, The Guardian\, National Geographic Traveler\, New York Times\, Popular Science and The Wall Street Journal. Millie has also worked for Panthera and the Wildlife Conservation Society; and has been retained by African Parks\, Elephant Family and Fauna & Flora International as an external consultant. She is a skilled wildlife photographer and has won several awards for her images. \nA Royal Geographical Society fellow\, Millie holds a B.A. in history from Wake Forest University\, a J.D. in law from The University of Texas and an MPhil in conservation leadership from the University of Cambridge\, where she wrote her dissertation on conservation storytelling while collaborating with the Cambridge Conservation Initiative’s arts\, science and conservation program. A native of San Antonio\, Texas\, Millie is based in London\, where she has lived on/off since 2001. \nShaun Donovan is the Manager of Environmental Sciences and has been with the River Authority since 2012. He was originally hired as an Aquatic Biologist and worked his way to the Senior Aquatic Biologist position before being promoted to management. In his time with the River Authority\, he has been instrumental in developing and expanding proactive ecological restoration efforts throughout the basin including fish and mussel reintroductions. He is a Certified Fisheries Professional and active member of the American Fisheries Society and a certified Project Management Professional. \nShaun received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi then worked offshore for two years conducting research in the shrimping industry\, including research on red snapper and various shark species.
