The White Shaman mural\, painted thousands of years ago\, illustrates the lifeway and belief systems of the now-gone hunter-gatherer society. \nMore about the White Shaman Preserve and the Witte. \nPricing: \n\nMembers: $15\nNon-Members: $25\n\nTour Difficulty: (Strenuous) There is a 250-foot descent into a narrow brushy canyon and the trail is steep with loose rocks and uneven footing. SUMMARY:Research Challenges from a Polar Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Join the Witte Museum as Dr. Peter Flaig discusses the everyday life at remote field camps in Antarctica and Arctic Alaska. Hear about the complex logistics necessary to access these camps\, collect samples\, and ship specimens like the ones found in Antarctic Dinosaurs! \nABOUT THE SPEAKER: \nDr. Peter Flaig is a Research Scientist and Sedimentologist-Stratigrapher at the Bureau of Economic Geology\, University of Texas at Austin. His job includes examining deposits such as those that surround dinosaur bones\, as well as the plants and other animals found alongside them. His goal is to help other scientists reconstruct ancient\, deep-time environments. \nDr. Flaig was fortunate enough to be a part of a separate research team based in the same remote Beardmore Field Camp as the team that found the specimens for Antarctic Dinosaurs!
