DESCRIPTION:Add to your Witte experience with hands-on explorations of Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Art and Math at STEAM Sunday.  \nUncover the art of animal camouflage with this interactive workshop on adaptations. Learn how creatures stand out to attract mates or blend in to avoid predators. It’s science in action\, straight from the animal kingdom! \nCost: $8 (non-member) / $6 (member) + Museum Admission \nImportant Information: \n\nAdvanced registration required. Participation in this event requires Witte Museum admission (sold separately)\, plus STEAM Sunday ticket for each participant.\nPurchase includes all supplies needed for interactive workshop.\nNon-participating family members are welcome (space permitting) and do not need to purchase a ticket.\nRecommended for all ages over 5.\nProgram runs approximately 45-60 minutes.\nSTEAM Sunday ticket sales close one hour before the program begins.

Find out more about our backyard neighbors during a demonstration of Animal Encounters. \n10:30 a.m.\nHunting the Pecos – Adventure Walk\nHave you ever wondered what was it like to hunt thousands of years ago? Join our Witte educators and discover how the People of the Pecos used the natural resources around them to hunt.\n\nNature’s Inspiration – John R. and Greli N. Less Nature & Science Courtyard\nHow does nature inspire scientists to advance technology? Learn the different ways spiders inspire scientists and discover their incredible role in nature. \n11 a.m.\nBirds of A Feather – East Foundation Land Stewardship Lab\nHave you ever wondered if dinosaurs had feathers and why? Come find out in our presentation of Birds of a Feather. \nCreating Cordage – Lifeways Lab\nHow did the People of the Pecos create the items needed for everyday life? Join our Witte educators to discover\, through experimental archaeology\, how the lechuguilla plant was used to create cordage or rope that the people in the Lower Pecos Canyonlands used for everything from netting to sandals. \n11:30 a.m.\nStaying Alive- Live Animal Presentation *not exclusive to Homeschool Day participants\nGet up close and personal with live animals from Staying Alive: Animal Defenses and learn how these animals outsmart predators in engaging\, up-close presentations by expert educators. \n \nIMPORTANT INFORMATION:  \n\nAdvanced registration required\nRecommended for grades K-6th\n$10 per participant- Ticket includes early museum access\, General Museum Admission\, admission to Special Exhibition Staying Alive: Animal Defenses and exclusive access to educator-led demonstrations.
