SUMMARY:Rock Art Tours: Bonfire Shelter & Eagle Cave Tour
DESCRIPTION:Experience the amazing rock shelters located in Eagle Nest Canyon. \nOn this tour\, you will visit Eagle Cave\, Skiles Shelter\, Kelley Cave and Bonfire Shelter.  Bonfire Shelter is a nationally significant site that preserves evidence of what may be the oldest and southernmost “bison jump” in North America.  Rock art in Eagle Cave has been radiocarbon dated between 3350-3210 years old.  Combined these sites contain evidence of human occupation spanning over 12\,000 years. \nThe Witte Museum thanks the landowners for their stewardship of this unique cultural resource and for graciously providing access. \nMore about the White Shaman Preserve and Rock Art Tours. \nHealth + Safety: Participants must be aware of the remote and extreme environmental conditions and terrain into which the tour travels.  At any time of the year\, desert heat can be extreme.  Desert hikes require stamina\, balance\, a tolerance for heat and a higher level of physical conditioning. You will be in a remote location where response to serious injuries and medical emergencies will be difficult and lengthy. \n Difficulty: Very strenuous. The hike is into a very steep and rough canyon.  Stamina\, agility and good balance are a must. Climbing over large boulders is required.  The hike involves a 100’ descent into a canyon with no trail.  Deep loose rocks make walking difficult. \nPricing: \n\nMembers: $70\nNon-members: $80\n\nRound-trip Distance: 2-mile hike \nDuration: 6.5 hours \nVehicle Requirements: There are no vehicle requirements for this tour. \nMeeting Location:  Judge Roy Bean Visitor Center in Langtry\, TX \nReservations are required and spaces are limited. Participants must be ages 12 & up. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

SUMMARY:Saturday with a Scientist: Cretaceous Crocs
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered what other creatures lived in Texas during the Cretaceous Period? \nJoin Dr. Thomas Adams\, Chief Curator and Vice President of Research at the Witte Museum\, for Saturday with a Scientist: Cretaceous Crocs in the Valero Great Hall. Dr. Adams will showcase his research and discoveries into Texas crocodile fossils. \nDiscover the giant Deinosuchus\, also known as the “terror crocodile\,” and Deltasuchus\, the dinosaur-eating predator that once dominated Texas waterways. The Early Cretaceous Period holds so many fascinating discoveries—from land to water\, from small to gigantic creatures—offering a glimpse into an ancient world far different from the crocodiles and alligators we know today. \nThis event is included with General Admission. Purchase your admission online here or purchase a Witte Membership and enjoy events like this all year! \nAnd don’t forget to explore our special exhibition Unseen Oceans\, where you can dive even deeper into the wonders of the natural world.
