Six jazz concerts, hosted in partnership with KRTU, will take place on the Witte campus in 2023.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 7, 2023) – Spend Sunday afternoons relaxing under the pecan trees while enjoying great live music on the banks of the San Antonio River when “Sunday Jazz at the Witte” returns to Brackenridge Park. The 15th season for the series, which has been on hiatus since 2020, features an exciting lineup of talented San Antonio artists performing live at the Witte Museum. The concerts are presented in partnership with Trinity University’s KRTU Jazz 91.7.
Three performances will be held in spring 2023. The series kicks off on March 12 with San Antonio-favorite Regency Jazz Band, led by bassist George Prado and known for specializing in the Great American Songbook. On April 2, Jose Amador and Terra Nova will fill the Will Smith Amphitheater with the sounds of Latin Jazz. A special Mother’s Day performance on May 14 will be held in the Zachry Family Acequia Garden with Three Swings and A Miss, featuring Hollywood-born, Hill Country-raised songbird Noelle Goforth and her “three swings” blend winsome vocals, first-rate instrumentation and classic Hollywood glamor. Mother’s Day picnic bags will be available for pre-order for the event.
The series picks up again on September 10 with the Audra Menconi Quintet, led by drummer and composer Audra Menconi. On October 8, Johnny P & the Wiseguys, featuring Johnny Panzarellas’ “velvety vocals and dynamic trumpet sound,” perform. The final concert of the season takes place on November 12 with Henry Brun & the Latin Playerz, incorporating Latin styles with rhythm and blues, swing and straight-ahead jazz.
