Plan Your Group Visit

When planning your museum experience, follow these easy steps:

  1. Determine if your group would prefer an educational program or a self-guided visit to the museum.
  2. Assemble your group’s information including a primary teacher contact, the number of students and adults, Title I status and any special needs requests.
  3. Submit a reservation request based on your type of visit. Please note there is a minimum of two weeks advance notice to accommodate your request.

All Texas fourth-grade students can experience their lessons coming to life and extend classroom learning with free field trips to the Witte.

Join museum educators for healthy cooking demonstrations in the H-E-B Body Adventure, meet our critter friends in the Live Lab during a Live Animal Encounter, or learn the lifeways of the People of the Pecos during our Daily Demonstrations. Enjoy Gallery Theater performances on history, health and wellness presented by the Witte InterActors at the all across the museum. Free with museum admission.

Field Trip FAQs

The museum will open up an hour earlier at 9:00 am for groups Monday through Friday upon request.

Our regular hours of operation are as follows:

Monday: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Tuesday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Free Tuesdays 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
WednesdaySaturday: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday: Noon – 5:00 pm

General admission grants your students access to the following self-guided permanent exhibitions:

The Witte is host to multiple limited-time special exhibitions each year. Check with the Reservations Team for what exhibitions will be available during your visit.

The museum is self-guided, allowing chaperones and students to choose where to focus their time and attention in the exhibitions. Please utilize these helpful resources during your visit.

Enhance your field trip with an interactive program led by a museum educator! These programs are TEKS-aligned, grade-specific, and offered in a variety of subjects. Click here to learn more. 

For every 10 students, one teacher/chaperone is required and will be granted free admission. Additional chaperones will pay the student group rate.

Students of all ages are required to be with a chaperone at all times.

Yes, we require one chaperone for every 10 students.

The exact price for additional chaperones is calculated at the time of your reservation. You are required to collect all money in advance of check-in. Only one admission and program transaction is allowed per group and will be completed at check-in.
Yes, the Witte offers many outdoor seating options for lunchtime! Lunches will be stored at the Feik Family Orientation Pavilion. For easy drop-off, use Gunn Drive and stop at the gate. All lunches will need to be consolidated into coolers/containers and labeled with your group name.

We ask all student backpacks either stay at school or on the bus.

  • Free parking is available in the Brackenridge Park Parking Garage on Avenue B. 
  • Take the Adventure Walk from the parking garage to the H-E-B Lantern Entrance located on Broadway St.  
  • Accessible parking and Drop-Offs are available on Gunn Drive North Lot located to the left of the Witte Museum. 

All buses and vans drop off at the front of the museum on Gunn Drive. Drivers will need to enter through the northern entrance on Broadway. Please note this is a one-way drive.

Buses can find parking nearby at:

Please have all students stay on your bus until a Witte team member provides further instructions. Our team will meet you on Gunn Drive to assist with unloading lunches, and will direct chaperones and students to orientation.

The lead person will check-in for the group with their final numbers and provide payment. At this time, we will go over your field trip folder and answer any questions.

Chaperones may wait for students to arrive at the Feik Family Orientation Pavilion. Parking is available at the North Parking Lot and Brackenridge Parking Garage for free.

If you will be more than 10-15 minutes late, please call us at 210-464-5117. If you are late for a program, we will try to accommodate your new time, but cannot guarantee your program can be rescheduled.

You can request a visit by filling out a Group Request Form here. A team member will review your request and contact you to complete your booking.

We request either a phone call or email notification no later than 2 weeks before your visit to accommodate your reschedule or cancellation request.
